Pakistan's FIA Files Case Against Nine Journalists For Alleged Defamation Of Actress Nargis

The Federal Investigation Agency's cybercrime division in Pakistan has initiated legal proceedings against nine journalists and vloggers. They are accused of defaming actress Nargis on social media. Despite the charges, no arrests have been made yet. Additionally, stage dancers Maryam Ali Hussain and Nigar Chaudhry face charges under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and relevant sections of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The individuals facing charges include Salman Qureshi, Jawad Shah, Sheraz Nisar, Zunaira Maham, Abida Usmani, Mahreen Sibtain, Bilal Zafar, Atif Malik, and Shakeel Zahid. According to the complaint filed by Ghazala Idrees, known as Nargis, these people allegedly orchestrated a campaign to damage her reputation. The FIR indicates that they spread false and defamatory content about her online.

Nargis provided evidence supporting her claims during the investigation conducted by the FIA. She alleged that these actions were intended to harm her dignity and modesty. The FIA is examining the material submitted by Nargis to substantiate her accusations against those involved in this defamation case.

In a separate incident, Nargis reportedly suffered severe physical abuse from her husband Majid Bashir, who is a police inspector. This incident occurred at their home in Lahore. She claimed that the abuse stemmed from her refusal to transfer property ownership to him. This personal ordeal adds another layer of complexity to her current challenges.

The ongoing investigation highlights issues related to online defamation and personal safety concerns for public figures like Nargis. The case underscores the impact of social media on personal reputations and the legal measures available for protection against such defamation.
