Anshul Pandey Reveals OTT Platforms Offering New Avenues For Regional Talent
The rise of OTT platforms in India has significantly altered the entertainment landscape. This growth has introduced new content and services, creating both opportunities and challenges for actors. Anshul Pandey, known for his role as Vansh in Watcho Exclusives' series 'Flash,' recently shared his thoughts on the impact of OTT on actors and reflected on his television career.
Anshul Pandey discussed whether OTT platforms are advantageous or disadvantageous for actors. He stated, "I think it's a bit of both. With big names now wanting to be part of OTT projects, there's more competition. However, overall, thanks to OTT, there's a significant increase in work opportunities. Previously, there were only television and film mediums, but now there's this massive platform. It's not just the same actors being cast; many shows are also giving chances to actors from smaller cities or those who have never auditioned in Mumbai. OTT has been a boon for many actors, and it's led to the discovery of many talented individuals."

Pandey, who gained recognition from the TV show Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, spoke about how actors were once pigeonholed based on their medium. He mentioned that about 7-8 years ago, there was a belief that TV actors might not be considered for other platforms. He said, "Around 7-8 years ago when I was starting out, there was this notion that if you were known for TV roles, you might not be considered for other platforms. However, I've always believed that acting is acting, whether it's for TV, film, or web series. I approach each project by focusing on the character's demands rather than the medium. So, I haven't let myself be limited by categorizations. With the rise of the web space, this notion seems to have faded away."
"Flash," directed by Shaurya Singh and available exclusively on Watcho App, follows Vansh Kundra, a skilled portrait photographer who gets entangled in a mystery during a routine shoot with Aksha Chauhan. Set in an opulent yet eerie penthouse, unexpected events challenge Vansh's perception of reality. The series gradually uncovers Aksha's true identity and sinister forces at play, keeping viewers captivated throughout.
The surge of OTT platforms has undeniably transformed the entertainment landscape in India. While it brings challenges due to increased competition among actors, it also opens up numerous opportunities for fresh talent from diverse backgrounds.
The expansion of OTT services has created more job opportunities for actors who previously had limited options with only television and films available. This platform is now casting a wider net by including actors from smaller cities or those who have never auditioned in major hubs like Mumbai.
Overall, while the competition has intensified with more prominent names joining OTT projects, it has also democratized opportunities for many aspiring actors across India.
