Nilesh Maniyar And Shonali Bose To Premiere A Fly On The Wall At 29th Busan International Film Festival
Acclaimed filmmakers Nilesh Maniyar and Shonali Bose, known for co-writing "The Sky is Pink" and "Margarita with a Straw," are set to premiere their latest feature documentary at the 29th Busan International Film Festival. The film will be showcased in the Wide Angle Documentary Competition section, which celebrates unique documentary voices from around the world.
The documentary, directed by Maniyar and Bose, explores a profound friendship that navigates the journey between life and death. With just a week before their friend Chika Kapadia's scheduled physician-assisted suicide, Nilesh encourages Shonali to include herself in the narrative. Together with editor Tushar Ghogale, they craft a moving story about dignity in death and friendship, set against Switzerland's picturesque backdrop.

Director Nilesh Maniyar expressed his thoughts on being selected for Busan: "Chika was a friend who gave more than he took. And what a life altering impression he left on me in his last days. Hence it was only apt to tell his story via a lens of friendship that Chika and Shonali shared for 25 long years. With the premiere at Busan, we hope to further the conversation about the right to dignity in death, as in life."
Filmmaker Shonali Bose added her perspective: "Fulfilling Chika's dying wish and shooting this film has been the hardest challenge of my filmmaking career. This film is my love letter to Chika and to life. I am honoured to premiere it at Busan, a festival that values such deeply personal stories."
"A Fly On the Wall" marks the third collaboration between Maniyar and Bose presented at Busan, following their previous works "The Sky Is Pink" and "Margarita with a Straw." Their continued presence at this festival highlights their commitment to telling impactful stories.
The 29th Busan International Film Festival is scheduled from October 4 to October 13, 2024. This event will provide an opportunity for audiences to engage with diverse cinematic narratives from across the globe.
