Netflix’s Sector 36 Earns Acclaim At Its World Premiere In Melbourne
On August 22, 2024, Netflix's Sector 36 premiered at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. The event was highly anticipated, with star Vikrant Massey, who plays Prem Singh, present. The audience was left captivated and emotional as the credits rolled, showcasing the film's powerful storytelling and commendable performances. The night ended with enthusiastic applause, marking Sector 36 as a festival highlight. Directed by Aditya Nimbalkar, this intense crime thriller is produced by Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films and Jio Studios.
Sector 36 is inspired by real-life incidents involving children who mysteriously disappear from a slum in Sector 36. As tension escalates, a relentless police officer embarks on a chilling investigation to confront a cunning serial killer. Vikrant Massey and Deepak Dobriyal deliver gripping performances as Prem Singh, the elusive serial killer, and Ram Charan Pandey, the determined officer in this high-stakes game of cat and mouse.

Addressing the festival audience, Vikrant Massey discussed his role as Prem Singh. He said, "Talking about the preparation without giving away much, this was one of the few films that pushed me against the wall, it was very challenging. Although I did not have to transform physically but mentally and emotionally this film really pushed me against the wall."
Massey also spoke about the narrative and the importance of telling stories like Sector 36. He stated, "There is far more realism in films since the last 10 years. Society represents cinema and vice versa. Today because of major platforms, giants like Netflix, when we talk about Indian cinema which also comprises so many other regional cinema coming together, we are not just making films that are community specific but which are universal in nature." Discussing Sector 36 further he added, "I feel as storytellers, someone needs to tell these stories if not me. The idea is to have these stories be told."
Sector 36 releases on September 13th exclusively on Netflix.
