Mukti Mohan Discusses The Significance Of Navratri's Message: Triumph Of Good Over Evil
Navratri holds a special place in the heart of actress Mukti Mohan, known for her roles in Life Hill Gayi, Gyaarah Gyaarah, Thar, and A Wedding Story. Despite her busy schedule, she cherishes the traditions passed down through her family during this festive period.
Mukti fondly recalls family customs that deepen her connection to Navratri. "My mother reads stories regarding the nine forms of Maa Durga throughout the course of the nine days. One ritual I follow is feeding and gifting young girls on Ashtami, it is my favorite ritual," she shares.

The festival's message resonates deeply with Mukti's values. "The triumph of good over evil is what I connect with." This simple yet profound statement reflects how Navratri's essence aligns with her beliefs. In a world filled with moral challenges, this celebration reminds us to uphold justice and goodness.
Balancing her artistic commitments with Navratri celebrations can be tough for Mukti. She acknowledges, "Honestly, it's the beginning of the work season for artists, so I can't really celebrate like how we did during college days. But I make it a point to follow the ritual of feeding young girls on Ashtami and gifting them books and toys."
Mukti sometimes observes fasting during Navratri but indulges in delicious foods on Ashtami. She explains, "Yes, sometimes, but not on Ashtami because my mother makes the best Halwa, Sabzi, Poori, Channa with a dash of coconut on Ashtami."
Reflecting on Navratri's theme of good triumphing over evil, Mukti offers a candid view on its relevance to her life. "Honestly, no matter what part of philosophy or mythology I relate to, if it doesn't serve or help me apply in practical life, it still remains a pipeline dream for me. Unfortunately, witnessing the frustration in people due to delayed justice and not setting up stricter laws against crimes related to women and children has reduced my faith in stories," she concludes.
Real-World Impact
While Navratri honours divine power, Mukti believes society has much progress to make before truly overcoming evil. Her honest perspective highlights that traditions should inspire real-world change beyond mere rituals.
Mukti emphasises that while "The triumph of good over evil" defines Navratri's spirit, it's our responsibility to manifest this victory daily—beyond rituals and stories.
