Mumbai Police Challenge Bail Plea In Salman Khan Firing Incident Over Evidence Risks
Recently, Mumbai Police opposed the bail request of one of the accused in the Salman Khan house firing case. The police expressed concerns about potential evidence tampering if the accused were released.
A few months ago, on April 5, two men fired shots at Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's residence, Galaxy Apartment in Bandra, Mumbai. Amid the ongoing investigation, one of the accused filed a bail plea last Monday. A week later, Mumbai Police opposed his bail plea, fearing he might inform gangster Lawrence Bishnoi if released.

The police highlighted in their submission before a special court for Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA Act) that Gupta might communicate with Bishnoi about recent developments in the investigation. They added that crucial evidence could be destroyed if Gupta is granted bail.
According to a report by the Times of India, Mumbai Police opposed Vicky Gupta's bail application on Tuesday. They cited concerns that Gupta could tamper with evidence. Gupta is one of the accused shooters in the case and could risk the investigation if released.
Earlier on August 6, Vicky Gupta filed his bail plea through lawyers Amit Mishra and Pankaj Ghildiya. He claimed he was influenced by Lawrence Bishnoi's social media and inspired by Bishnoi's principles as an "ardent follower of Mr. Bhagat Singh". Gupta also alleged that Bishnoi had no role in Khan's case.
For context, Lawrence Bishnoi is currently jailed in Gujarat for unrelated charges. The police fear that if Gupta is released, he might inform Bishnoi about the investigation's progress.
Salman Khan's Statement
Last month, India Today accessed a copy of Mumbai Police's chargesheet which included Salman Khan's detailed statement. In his statement, Khan mentioned hearing a cracker-like sound during the firing incident at his residence. He confirmed the gunshots after communicating with his guards in the morning.
Khan acknowledged that Lawrence Bishnoi has been involved in the case and stated that Bishnoi carried out the firing with his gang members' help.
The ongoing investigation continues to unravel more details as authorities work to ensure justice is served without compromising crucial evidence or safety.
