Mukesh Khanna Addresses Sonakshi Sinha's Criticism Over Ramayana Comments With No Malicious Intent

Veteran actor Mukesh Khanna recently addressed his comments about Sonakshi Sinha's knowledge of the Ramayana. He acknowledged that he was aware his remarks might upset her but stressed that he had no harmful intentions. Khanna aimed to use Sonakshi's situation as a "Hi Fi case" to educate the younger generation about India's culture and history.

Khanna's comments followed an open letter from Sonakshi, who criticised him for making "distasteful statements" about her upbringing and family. She is the daughter of veteran actor and TMC MP Shatrughan Sinha. In response, Khanna expressed surprise at her delayed reaction but clarified his intentions were not to malign her or her father.

Khanna explained that his comments were directed at today's youth, often referred to as Gen-Z. He believes they rely too heavily on digital platforms like Google and Wikipedia for knowledge. He saw Sonakshi's incident as an opportunity to highlight this issue and educate others.

The actor, known for popular TV shows like "Shaktimaan" and "Mahabharat," expressed regret for mentioning Sonakshi in a recent interview. He assured that he would not repeat this in the future, stating, "Point noted. It will not be repeated. Be assured. Take care."

In 2019, Sonakshi faced criticism after incorrectly answering a question about the Hindu epic Ramayana on the quiz show "Kaun Banega Crorepati," hosted by Amitabh Bachchan. This incident resurfaced when Khanna brought it up again during an interview.

In her Instagram letter, Sonakshi urged Khanna to stop using this incident to gain attention at her family's expense. She emphasised that such remarks were unnecessary and requested him to refrain from repeating them in the future.

This exchange highlights differing perspectives on generational knowledge and cultural awareness in India today. While Khanna aims to use public figures as examples for educational purposes, Sonakshi seeks respect for personal boundaries and family reputation.
