Monali Thakur Addresses Mismanagement And Calls For Accountability Following Varanasi Performance Incident
Monali Thakur, a well-known singer, recently shared a troubling experience on Instagram. During her performance in Varanasi on December 22, 2024, she encountered significant mismanagement and unethical conduct by the event organisers. Her post highlighted the challenges faced due to these issues.
Monali expressed her concerns about the misuse of laws meant to protect against sexual harassment. She stated, "It has been deeply troubling for me to process the reckless and irresponsible behavior of the event management company's team. Specially, their misuse of laws designed to protect against sexual harassment-laws that are vital for safeguarding people, specially women in our society-is both appalling and unacceptable. Weaponizing such laws for personal vendetta, ego satisfaction, or retaliation against those who refused to comply with unethical practices is not only a gross abuse of rights but also deeply disrespectful to genuine survivors of these heinous crimes."

The singer emphasised how such actions damage the credibility of real survivors seeking justice. She noted that this behaviour undermines efforts to combat these crimes. Monali found it particularly disappointing that young women were involved in these actions, as it harms the cause and creates distrust around serious issues.
On the day of the event, Monali and her team faced severe negligence regarding basic safety measures. They were also subjected to false harassment accusations and life-threatening intimidation. These circumstances forced Monali to cut her performance short after just 70 minutes.
Monali condemned the poor treatment of vendors and backstage staff by event organisers. She stressed that cheating them out of their earnings or harassing them is unacceptable. Such behaviour should not be tolerated in any form within the live entertainment industry.
The singer voiced her confidence in speaking for the entire live entertainment community. This community works tirelessly behind the scenes and deserves respect and fair treatment at all times.
The incident highlights ongoing issues within event management practices that need addressing. It serves as a reminder of the importance of ethical conduct and respect for all individuals involved in organising events.
