Mithun Chakraborty Receives Dadasaheb Phalke Award At 70th National Film Awards Ceremony

Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award at a prestigious event in New Delhi's Vigyan Bhawan. This award, the highest honour in Indian cinema, was presented during the 70th National Awards ceremony by President Droupadi Murmu. At 74, Chakraborty has had a remarkable career with iconic films like "Agneepath" and "Ghar Ek Mandir," highlighting his significant contributions to Indian cinema.

Chakraborty's career began with his debut in the 1976 film "Mrigayaa," which earned him the National Film Award for Best Actor. Over time, he received two more National Film Awards, showcasing his versatility and enduring appeal. His recent work includes a role in "The Kashmir Files," directed by Vivek Agnihotri. Additionally, his son Namashi Chakraborty made his Bollywood debut with "Bad Boy."

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced last month on X (formerly Twitter) that Chakraborty would receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Vaishnaw praised the actor's inspirational journey, stating, "Mithun Da's remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations. Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema. To be presented at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on Oct 8, 2024." This accolade has previously been awarded to cinema legends like Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth.

Earlier this year, Chakraborty also received the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian honour. Born in Calcutta, his journey from acting debut to becoming a stalwart in Indian cinema is a testament to his talent and dedication.

Before the ceremony, Chakraborty expressed gratitude on the red carpet: "What can I say? Such great honorI can only thank God. The struggles I faced, God has returned everything to me. I'm still processing it." His words reflect humility and appreciation for overcoming challenges throughout his career.

During his acceptance speech, he shared heartfelt sentiments: "I have come on this stage once again thanks to your blessings. Nothing was handed to me on a platter, I struggled a lot. But today, after receiving this award, I have stopped complaining. Thank you God, you gave me everything back and with interest."
