Niki Aneja Reveals Mental Abuse By Producer Pahlaj Nihalani Amid MeToo Movement In Bollywood
The MeToo movement has brought to light numerous allegations within the entertainment sector, leaving many stunned. Recently, television actress Niki Aneja shared her experience of alleged abuse by producer and former CBFC chairperson, Pahlaj Nihalani. During a conversation with Siddharth Kanan, Niki disclosed that she faced mental abuse and was pressured to 'compromise' for her debut film, Azaad.
Niki recounted feeling uncomfortable on the set of Azaad, where she was urged to 'compromise' and attend dinners with distributors. She expressed her discomfort, stating, "I felt very uncomfortable. I wasn't treated nicely during Azaad. Newcomer aside, I realised there is more to acting than what people said. Ye jo casting couch hai, 'Compromise kar lo kya problem hai... aapki journey jaldi ho jayegi...' when people talk about these things around you, I don't resonate with them. I want to wake up and respect who I see in the mirror. Whatever I learnt technically during that shoot is my wealth but what I learnt on the outside of shoot, during rehearsals and promotions, I understood that all these things I can't do. I was only 19 at that time."

She further accused Pahlaj Nihalani of justifying his actions when confronted. Niki recalled asking him why he insisted on taking her to these dinners. His response was dismissive: "Picture nahi bechni hai kya?" She questioned him further by saying, "Anil Kapoor ko sign kar ke aap picture nahi bech sakte kya?" This confrontation led to her becoming unpopular on set.
Despite these challenges, Niki decided not to pursue films after completing Yes Boss due to the unpleasant experiences she faced. However, she noted a stark contrast in working conditions when collaborating with Shah Rukh Khan and Ratan ji's team.
In addition to Anil Kapoor playing a leading role in Azaad, Niki gained recognition through television series like Astitva...Ek Prem Kahani and Ghar Ek Sapna.
