MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2024: Celebrating Over 110 Films From Around The Globe
The MAMI Mumbai Film Festival is gearing up for its 2024 edition, a much-anticipated event in Asia's cinematic calendar. Scheduled from 19 to 24 October, the festival will feature over 110 films in more than 50 languages. This celebration of cinema will take place in Mumbai, with venues like PVR INOX and Regal Cinema hosting screenings. The festival highlights cinema's universal appeal, transcending cultural and linguistic barriers.
Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, the Interim Festival Director, emphasized the importance of partnerships and sponsorships for the festival's success. "As an independent charitable organisation MAMI relies entirely on the generosity of its partners and sponsors. The scale of each edition of the festival depends solely on the extent of the support we receive during the year. We are extremely grateful to each and every partner that has stood with us this transition year so that we can continue to bring the best of independent and world cinema to our wonderful audiences in the 2024 edition of MAMI Mumbai Film Festival." This statement highlights the collaborative spirit essential for bringing world-class cinema to audiences.

The festival offers a diverse range of sections including South Asia Competition, Focus South Asia (Non-Competition), and World Cinema. This year's lineup includes over 20 World Premieres, more than 25 Asia Premieres, and over 35 South Asia Premieres. These selections underscore the festival's role as a significant platform for filmmakers worldwide. Additionally, from 21-23 October, an Industry Programme at Soho House Mumbai will engage local filmmakers through talks and workshops.
Artistic Director Deepti DCunha expressed excitement about this year's film selection: "Once again this year we have achieved a fantastic curation consisting of the most anticipated and acclaimed titles from World Cinema that will show for the very first time in India, at MAMI. We were overwhelmed by the huge number of submissions from South Asia and the South Asian diaspora, and are delighted to see that South Asian filmmakers across the world are finding value in bringing their films to our Competition and Focus South Asia sections. This has strengthened our faith in our vision to provide a common platform to highlight films that champion the South Asian voice."
The festival not only showcases films but also honours them with awards such as the South Asia Competition, NETPAC Award, and Excellence in Cinema. These awards celebrate creative achievements within the industry, reflecting MAMI's dedication to recognising talent.
MAMI continues its Year Round Programme into 2024 with initiatives like MAMI Select: Filmed on iPhone, Colorist Workshop (Focus: Women Colorists), Word to Screen Market (South Asia), and Rashid Irani Young Critics Lab. These efforts demonstrate MAMI's commitment to nurturing talent throughout the year.
As anticipation builds for MAMI's official selection announcement and delegate badge registrations, excitement grows for this cinematic celebration. The festival invites audiences to explore diverse narratives from around the globe through film.
