Maidaan Stays Ahead Of BMCM In Box Office Race On Day 26 Despite Drop
The cinematic landscape witnessed a significant showdown this year with the release of two major Bollywood films during the Eid season. Ajay Devgn's "Maidaan" and Akshay Kumar's "Bade Miyan Chote Miyan" (BMCM) were set for a head-to-head battle at the box office, sparking widespread anticipation among fans. Despite the high expectations, both movies faced challenges in drawing audiences to theaters, marking them as underperformers in terms of revenue.
"Maidaan," directed by Amit Sharma, delves into the life of football legend Syed Abdul Rahim, with Ajay Devgn portraying the lead role. The biographical sports drama was produced with an impressive budget of Rs 350 crores. In contrast, "Bade Miyan Chote Miyan," featuring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, is an action-packed entertainer directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. The film tells the story of two Indian army officers on a mission against a formidable enemy, with a production budget estimated at Rs 250 crores.

Initial box office figures revealed a lukewarm reception for both films. "Maidaan" opened with a collection of Rs 7.1 crores, which included earnings from paid previews prior to its official release. Meanwhile, "BMCM" managed to secure Rs 15.65 crores on its opening day across various language formats. However, as days progressed, both movies struggled to maintain momentum.
By the 26th day, "Maidaan" had garnered approximately Rs 45 lakhs, bringing its total collection to about Rs 48.85 crores. On the other hand, "BMCM" saw a slightly lower daily earning of Rs 25 lakhs on the same day, with its overall box office tally reaching Rs 64 crores. These figures reflect the films' difficulties in attracting sustained interest from viewers despite their star-studded casts and significant production investments.
The face-off between "Maidaan" and "BMCM" serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of cinematic success. Despite the star power and substantial budgets behind these projects, their performance underscores the challenges films face in captivating audiences and achieving box office success.
