Day 24 Box Office Clash: Maidaan Overtakes BMCM In Earnings
The cinematic face-off between Ajay Devgn's Maidaan and the Akshay Kumar-Tiger Shroff starrer Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (BMCM) has been the talk of the Bollywood industry, especially with both films being released on the same day, April 11, 2024. Despite the high expectations pinned on these Eid releases, they have had a rather lukewarm reception at the box office. However, on the 24th day since their release, Maidaan has seen a significant uptick in collections, overtaking BMCM.
Maidaan, directed by Amit Sharma, delves into the life of football legend Syed Abdul Rahim, with Ajay Devgn portraying the lead role. The biographical sports drama boasts a production budget of Rs 350 crores. In contrast, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, helmed by Ali Abbas Zafar, is an action-packed narrative focusing on two Indian army officers on a mission against India's formidable adversary, played by Prithviraj Sukumaran. BMCM was produced with a budget of approximately Rs 250 crores.

The opening day saw Maidaan garnering Rs 7.1 crores, which included Rs 2.6 crores from paid previews before its official release date. On the other hand, BMCM had a stronger start with an opening day collection of Rs 15.65 crores across various languages (Hindi - Rs 15.5 cr; Tamil - Rs 0.08 cr; Telugu - Rs 0.05 cr; Kannada - Rs 0.01 cr; Malayalam - Rs 0.01 cr). However, as days progressed, the box office tale took a different turn.
By the third week, Maidaan and BMCM collected Rs 7.3 crores and Rs 3.9 crores respectively. The latest reports from Sacnilk highlight an interesting shift in momentum on the 24th day post-release. Maidaan experienced a remarkable 90% growth in collections from the previous day, earning around Rs 97 lakhs on the fourth Saturday and bringing its total to Rs 47.05 crores. Meanwhile, BMCM managed to collect approximately Rs 40 lakhs on the same day, totaling Rs 63.05 crores over 24 days.
This unexpected turn in box office collections underscores the unpredictable nature of film receptions and audience preferences. While both films embarked on their cinematic journey with much fanfare and anticipation, it's evident that box office success is not just about star power or production budgets but also resonating with the audience's expectations and interests.
As these two films continue to vie for audience attention and box office dominance, their journey underscores the dynamic and ever-changing landscape of Bollywood cinema.
