Maidaan Surpasses BMCM In Third-Week Box Office Clash

In a recent box office showdown that captured the attention of Bollywood enthusiasts across the globe, superstars Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar went head-to-head with their Eid releases, Maidaan and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (BMCM), respectively. Despite the high anticipation surrounding both films, neither managed to live up to the expectations set by their star-studded casts and significant budgets.

The competition was fierce as Ajay Devgn's Maidaan, a biographical sports drama directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, and Akshay Kumar's BMCM, a masala action film directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, both premiered on April 11, 2024. Maidaan, which chronicles the life of football legend Syed Abdul Rahim, boasted a production budget of Rs 350 crores. Meanwhile, BMCM tells the tale of two Indian army officers on a mission against India's formidable enemy, with a budget reported to be around Rs 250 crores.

Maidaan Beats BMCM in Week 3

The opening day box office numbers were less than stellar for both films. Maidaan's initial collection stood at Rs 7.1 crores, including earnings from paid reviews conducted before its official release. On the other hand, BMCM saw a slightly better opening with Rs 15.65 crores across various languages. However, as the days progressed, both movies struggled to attract audiences to theatres.

By the 22nd day, early estimates suggested that BMCM had garnered around Rs 40 lakhs, while Maidaan appeared to have a slight edge with an estimated Rs 50 lakhs for the day. Despite this minor victory for Maidaan in daily earnings, BMCM led in total collections over the same period, amassing approximately Rs 62.45 crores compared to Maidaan's Rs 45.6 crores.

This clash between two of Bollywood's heavyweights not only highlighted the unpredictable nature of moviegoer preferences but also underscored the challenges faced by big-budget films in recouping their investments. As both films continue their theatrical run, industry watchers and fans alike remain keenly interested in seeing how this box office battle unfolds.
