Maidaan Doubles Box Office Collection Over BMCM On Fourth Friday

The Bollywood box office has recently witnessed the release of two highly anticipated films, "Maidaan" and "Bade Miyan Chote Miyan" (BMCM), both of which have faced challenges in drawing audiences to theaters. Despite the star power of Ajay Devgn in "Maidaan" and the dynamic duo of Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff in BMCM, the opening collections have been less than stellar for these big-budget productions.

"Maidaan," a biographical sports drama directed by Amit Sharma, shines a spotlight on the life of football legend Syed Abdul Rahim and was produced with a budget of Rs 350 crores. The film managed to garner an opening collection of Rs 7.1 crores, which includes Rs 2.6 crores from paid previews prior to its official release. In contrast, "BMCM," an action-packed entertainer helmed by Ali Abbas Zafar that tells the story of two Indian army officers on a mission against a formidable foe, was made on a budget of Rs 250 crores and opened with Rs 15.65 crores, accounting for earnings across multiple languages.

Maidaan Leads BMCM in Box Office

Despite a stronger start, BMCM's performance at the box office has not significantly outpaced that of "Maidaan." As per data from Sacnilk, on its 4th Friday, "Maidaan" collected approximately Rs 50 lakhs, while BMCM saw around Rs 25 lakhs in earnings. By day 23, the total estimated collection for "Maidaan" reached Rs 46.1 crores, with BMCM slightly ahead at Rs 62.65 crores.

During its third week, "Maidaan" showed some resilience with collections amounting to Rs 7.3 crores, compared to BMCM's Rs 3.9 crores during the same period. This indicates a slight edge for "Maidaan" in terms of box office performance over time.

Overall, both films have not lived up to expectations in terms of attracting large audiences to theaters. The underwhelming response highlights the unpredictable nature of film success, even for projects featuring prominent actors and substantial investment. The journey of "Maidaan" and "BMCM" at the box office serves as a reminder of the myriad factors that contribute to a film's reception and commercial success.
