Mudassar Aziz Shares Insights On Khel Khel Mein's Box Office Resilience

Despite a slow start, "Khel Khel Mein" (KKM) has shown resilience at the box office. Director Mudassar Aziz believes that films can gain traction over time rather than relying solely on their opening weekends. "Films like Kantara and Pushpa, when they started out, did box office numbers across a stretch of days," he said in an interview.

Aziz acknowledges that the film's initial performance was worrying but finds comfort in the audience's changing response as the film has seen a 100% growth. "It would be wrong to say it doesn't shake you in the beginning. Slowly what seeps in is the fact that your acid test is coming from the reactions," Aziz shares, highlighting the emotional journey tied to box office expectations.

Aziz's observations reflect a broader trend where audience behaviour is increasingly driven by content rather than immediate box office results. "OTT viewers are willing to give legs to a film without being swayed by box office numbers," Aziz notes, emphasizing that these platforms allow content to be appreciated independently of its financial success.

He further explained that initial numbers can often be misleading due to external factors like a hit song or controversy, which may not necessarily reflect the film's overall quality or appeal. "Numbers can be governed by several factors. In some cases, you will realize in the past that some films have landed up getting a great weekend, maybe only because of one song and then the film has found no legs," he explains.

"The unfortunate part is that even though a section of the audience and the trade is finally talking about the content of KKM and not the collections, it all boils down to people saying what's the box office business," he notes. This highlights how financial performance often overshadows content quality in industry discussions.

Aziz candidly admits that while initial performance metrics were concerning, he finds solace in how audiences are responding over time. The evolving reception underscores his belief that films can build momentum gradually rather than relying solely on their opening weekend performance.

Khel Khel Mein's journey illustrates how audience engagement with content can evolve beyond initial box office figures. As streaming platforms continue to influence viewing habits, films have more opportunities to find their audience over time. This shift underscores the importance of content quality over immediate financial success.
