The Bengali film industry recently saw the release of two highly anticipated films, 'Khadaan' and 'Shontaan', both hitting cinemas on 20th December 2024. These films have drawn attention due to the involvement of Bengali superstars Dev and Subhashree, who have a notable history together. As fans eagerly awaited the box office results, let's delve into how these films performed during their first weekend.

Dev, also known as Deepak Adhikari, made a return to his roots in mass entertainment with 'Khadaan'. Directed by Soojit Dutta and produced by Nispal Singh's Surinder Films alongside Dev Entertainment Ventures, the film features an ensemble cast including Jisshu Sengupta and Anirban Chakrabarti. The action-drama generated significant buzz from its trailer and songs.

Khadaan vs Shontaan: Box Office Day 3 Results

Receiving mostly positive reviews, 'Khadaan' opened strongly at the box office. According to Sacnilk, it earned approximately Rs 68 lakhs on its opening day. The film saw a rise in numbers over the weekend, collecting Rs 76 lakhs on Saturday and Rs 1.12 crore on Sunday. This brought its total nett collection to Rs 2.56 crore in just three days.

'Shontaan', directed by Raj Chakrabarty, reunites him with his wife-actress Subhashree Ganguly and Ritwick Chakraborty after their successful collaboration in 'Parineeta' (2019). The emotional drama also stars Mithun Chakraborty and Anashua Majumdar among others in pivotal roles.

The film opened with a modest collection of Rs 11 lakhs but gained momentum due to positive word of mouth. By Saturday, it had collected Rs 18 lakhs, followed by Rs 31 lakhs on Sunday. As per Sacnilk's estimates, 'Shontaan' amassed a total nett collection of Rs 60 lakhs over its opening weekend.

In the battle of numbers between Dev's 'Khadaan' and Subhashree's 'Shontaan', it appears that audiences preferred the former. With an impressive lead of approximately Rs 1.96 crore over its competitor, 'Khadaan' emerged as the clear winner at the box office during the first weekend.

The competition between these two films highlights the dynamic nature of Bengali cinema. While both movies have their unique appeal, 'Khadaan' managed to capture more attention from cinegoers this time around.
