Unveiling Why Karan Johar's Anticipated 'Takht' Never Made It To Screens
Karan Johar's Takht Shelved Reason: Karan Johar's ambitious project, Takht, has been a hot topic due to its intriguing storyline and star-studded cast. Despite the anticipation, the film has not been released, leaving fans curious about the delay. Today, we uncover why this highly awaited film was shelved even after extensive preparations.
Earlier, Karan Johar shared in an interview, "That film is a piece of my heart. It's got two and a half years of my prep work on it. We were preparing to go. I still remember we were starting on April 24 when the pandemic hit us in March. The film was so enormous, voluminous, and complex that it required a thousand workers on site every day. It was that kind of movie," he said.

In 2019, Karan Johar announced Takht with an impressive ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, Janhvi Kapoor, and Anil Kapoor. The story focuses on Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb and Dara Shikoh. The film was initially set for release on December 24, 2021.
For those unaware, Karan Johar returned to directing with Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani featuring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. This movie performed well at the box office.
Reports indicate that Takht faced numerous challenges leading to its shelving. The COVID-19 pandemic caused delays in the shooting schedule. Additionally, following Sushant Singh Rajput's death, Karan Johar faced significant online backlash which reignited the nepotism debate. Given that many star kids were part of Takht's cast, it was decided to postpone the film.
The shelving of Takht has left many fans disappointed but hopeful for future updates on this ambitious project.
