Kangana Ranaut Embodies Indira Gandhi In 'Emergency': A Look At Her Transformation
Bollywood's queen Kangana Ranaut prioritises substance over style in her latest project. Known for her bold approach, she endured two to three-hour prosthetic sessions for her upcoming film 'Emergency'. This political drama delves into the controversial Emergency of 1975 under Indira Gandhi's leadership, a role Kangana embraced with dedication.
Her transformation into Indira Gandhi has sparked widespread interest. With grey hair, a hooked nose, and wrinkled jowls, she has captivated both the public and critics. Authenticity was crucial for Kangana, who collaborated with Oscar-winning makeup artist David Malinowski. He is famous for transforming Gary Oldman into Winston Churchill in 'The Darkest Hour'.

In an industry often criticised for favouring dynasties, Kangana stands out by championing meritocracy. She proves that talent surpasses lineage. The trailer showcases her uncanny resemblance to Indira Gandhi and her flawless portrayal of the late Prime Minister's mannerisms. This performance might earn her a fifth National Award, as public opinion already favours her dedication to the craft.
During a recent interview about her transformation, Kangana stated, "Prosthetics took two to three hours. We have the best prosthetics artist in the world - David (Milnowski), who transformed Gary Oldman into Winston Churchill for the film 'The Darkest Hour'. He got an Oscar for his prosthetics. When you work with the best it shows in the result."
'Emergency', written and directed by Kangana Ranaut, features a stellar cast including Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik in significant roles. Produced by Zee Studios and Manikarnika Films, the film's music is composed by Sanchit Balhara and G V Prakash Kumar. Ritesh Shah handles screenplay and dialogues.
The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on 6th September 2024. History enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating this depiction of one of India's most contentious periods.
