Sikh Religious Body Demands Kangana Ranaut's 'Emergency' Trailer Be Pulled Down

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has issued a legal notice to the makers of the film "Emergency," alleging that it misrepresents Sikh history and characters. The SGPC, the highest religious body for Sikhs, is demanding the removal of the film's trailer from all platforms and a written apology to the Sikh community.

On August 21, both the Akal Takht and SGPC called for an immediate ban on "Emergency," starring Kangana Ranaut. They claim the film attempts to "character assassinate" Sikhs. SGPC secretary Partap Singh expressed strong objections and mentioned that letters were sent to the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting and the Central Board of Film Certification's Chairperson to ban the film.

Advocate Amanbir Singh Siali, legal advisor for SGPC, sent the notice to the film's producers, including Kangana Ranaut. The notice demands that they remove the trailer released on August 14 from public and social media platforms. Additionally, it asks for a written apology to be submitted to the Sikh community.

Partap Singh stated that following directions from SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami, a legal notice was issued to Kangana Ranaut and other producers involved in making "Emergency." He highlighted that after viewing the trailer, several scenes were found offensive by many in the Sikh community.

The period political drama "Emergency" is set to release next month. However, its release has been delayed multiple times; it was initially scheduled for November 24, 2023. The controversy surrounding its portrayal of Sikhs has added another layer of complexity to its release schedule.

Harjinder Singh Dhami recently called for an FIR against Kangana Ranaut, who is not only acting in but also writing, directing, and producing the film. This move underscores the seriousness with which SGPC views this issue.
