Trade analyst Rohit Jaiswal shared a tweet suggesting that Kalki 2898 AD might surpass SS Rajamouli's RRR starring Prabhas and Ram Charan. He tweeted, "Veteran numerologist JP Reddy has predicted #kalki2898ad day 1 to go above ₹257cr...... It will surpass RRR day 1 Worldwide collection...... Massive if this happens". Nag Ashwin's directorial venture is the first motion picture instalment of the planned Kalki Cinematic Universe and is set in a post-apocalyptic world in the year 2898 AD. The film will reportedly chronicle some events of the Mahabharata from the year 3102 BC. In an interaction with Deadline, Ashwin stated that the movie "does not involve any characters actively worshipped by large numbers of Hindus". He added, "We can take it as extremely religious or we can take it as the story of somebody who was born with a lot of power, didn't know what to do with it, and found his mentor in the process".
