Aamir Khan's Take On Son Junaid's Bollywood Debut With Maharaj

Maharaj On Netflix: Aamir Khan's son Junaid Khan has recently entered Bollywood. He made his debut with the controversial drama, Maharaj, which is now available on Netflix. Junaid shared insights into how his father, known for his perfectionism, reacted to his first film.

Junaid Khan discussed his father's reaction in an interview with Puja Talwar. He said, "I think he liked the film. But that is also...he likes everything. As an audience and when he watches something he wants to enjoy it, so he ends up liking it. Barring his own films where he's not an audience."

Aamir Reacts to Junaid's Debut

When asked if he feels the pressure of living up to his father's legacy or if he shares Aamir Khan's perfectionist traits, Junaid responded, "I don't think so. Everybody has to do their own thing. Life pans out differently for everybody. I'm on this journey, enjoying myself."

The film Maharaj delves into the Maharaj libel case, exposing the dark side of sexual exploitation by spiritual leaders. When questioned about choosing such a bold subject for his debut, Junaid explained, "I don't know about it being an unconventional (debut) because YRF is a big banner and Sid sir (director Siddharth Malhotra) wanted me (in the film). The story is inherently very dramatic."

Junaid further elaborated on his choice by saying, "I have been doing theatre in Mumbai since 2017. Sid sir asked me to come and test for this film. I didn't think of it as conventional or unconventional. I guess producers and directors didn't see me in romantic dramas. You do the work you get but it was a lovely script. It is such a wide medium, I don't think there is any protection in films."

Junaid's journey into acting began with theatre in Mumbai back in 2017. He mentioned that director Siddharth Malhotra invited him to audition for Maharaj without considering whether it was a conventional or unconventional choice.

Reflecting on his career path and choices, Junaid noted that producers and directors might not envision him in romantic roles but appreciated the script of Maharaj for its depth and drama.

The young actor emphasised that everyone’s life unfolds uniquely and he is simply enjoying his own journey without feeling burdened by expectations or comparisons.

Aamir Khan's positive reception of Maharaj highlights his supportive nature as a father who enjoys watching films as an audience member rather than critically analysing them.

The movie’s storyline tackles serious issues within spiritual communities, making it a bold choice for Junaid’s entry into Bollywood.

The debut film has sparked interest due to its controversial theme and Junaid’s performance under the direction of Siddharth Malhotra.

Junaid’s decision to take on such a challenging role reflects his commitment to diverse storytelling rather than following traditional paths.

This new addition to Bollywood showcases Junaid Khan stepping out from under his father’s shadow and carving out his own niche in the industry.
