Jitin Gulati On Playing Desi Ghoda In Netflix's Tribhuvan Mishra CA Topper: Insights And Fan Reactions

How has been the response for Desi Ghoda (His character in the series)?

(Laughs) When people call you by your character name at the airport and other places, it is a very new thing for me. In all my roles, my physical look is very different from how I am, but this one I think it is comedy show, and I am in clean shaved look, so a lot of people have come up to me and congratulated me for my part. So, people are watching it, and it is a very different, new and good feeling. I have been travelling and people have come to me and asked me, 'you are Desi Ghoda right?'.

People recognizing you for what you have done is always great. But, when people come up to me an say Desi Ghoda, there are people around me, looking at me and thinking 'what is Desi Ghoda?' (Laughs). So, it is the mixture of happiness and embarrassment.

You play the role of a gym instructor who is also a gigolo. So, was there a hesitation before taking up the role?

It is always about when your hear something then how excited are you and how interesting it sounds. This role literally decodes and dismantles a lot about masculinity. When roles like this are written and they have inherently something to say much more than they appear to be, it is always interesting to play them. So, there was no hesitation, and in fact, I am happy to take up roles which have multi-dimensions.

I have already been offered (laughs). So, I have been a model and then acting, and I look a certain way. So, people think that what they see on screen is close to who you might be. I had a crazy experience when someone wrote to me on Instagram. A girl actually messaged me on Instagram saying that 'our group of girls is going for a bachelorette to Bangkok, so how much would your charges be for three days?'. I was literally taken aback that where is this coming from. So, I think it is the part and parcel of our life.

How many DMs do you get from guys after Sisak and Kaala?

After Sisak and Kaala, honestly people see more what I am trying to portray and with how much sensitivity it has been portrayed than just a physical aspect of it. I was very glad that the community (LGBTQIA+) was very kind to me after portraying the transgender part in Kaala. I was hesitant, and the first question I asked my director also was 'have we tested people from the community?'. I have got wonderful messages from the people from the community.

Future Projects

There's a supernatural thriller that I have shot. It is directed by Vishal Furia. The shoot is already done, and then there's Girls Will Be Girls which is produced by Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha. So these are the two projects in the pipeline right now.

The series has indeed brought Jitin Gulati into the limelight with his portrayal of Desi Ghoda resonating well with viewers. His upcoming projects promise more intriguing performances.
