Jigra Review: Alia Bhatt's Performance Falls Short In Vasan Bala's Latest Film

Jigra Review: Vasan Bala, known for films like Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota and Monica, O My Darling, has a mixed track record. The former received praise but flopped at the box office, while the latter was a hit on Netflix. The collaboration between indie filmmaker Bala and commercial actress Alia Bhatt in Jigra sparked interest. Now that Jigra is in cinemas, let's see if it meets expectations.

The story centres on siblings Satya (Alia Bhatt) and Ankur (Vedang Raina). Satya has always been protective of Ankur since childhood. After their father's suicide, they live with a relative. Ankur goes on a business trip with cousin Kabir to Hanchi Dav but gets caught in a drug case and faces the death penalty. Satya travels to save him, forming the crux of the film.

Jigra Review: Alia Bhatt's Lacklustre Performance

While Jigra's storyline seems promising on paper, its execution falters significantly. This might be Vasan Bala's weakest film so far. The first half drags considerably, and although the pace picks up in the second half, a chaotic climax undermines the overall impact.

The emotional aspect is one of Jigra's strengths. Heartfelt scenes between Satya and Ankur resonate well with audiences. Some moments in the climax are beautifully captured. However, beyond these elements, there isn't much that stands out or captivates viewers.

Jigra falls under the prison break genre, similar to Savi released months ago starring Divya Khossla. Savi excelled with its engaging plot and planning that kept viewers hooked. In contrast, Jigra's screenplay and narration struggle to maintain interest throughout.

Jigra Actors' Performances

Alia Bhatt is among the industry's top actresses but delivers an average performance here. She excels in emotional scenes but lacks her usual spark overall. Vedang Raina shines brightly with his outstanding portrayal of Ankur, making a strong impression alongside Alia as siblings.

Supporting actors Manoj Pahwa, Vivek Gomber, and Rahul Ravindran also deliver noteworthy performances that leave a lasting impact.

Jigra Music

The film's music is decent with an attention-grabbing background score. However, given the movie's weaknesses, music alone cannot elevate it significantly.

Ultimately, Jigra doesn't succeed in impressing audiences. The collaboration between Vasan Bala and Alia Bhatt misses its mark this time around. If you're interested in watching it, consider waiting for its OTT release instead.
