Jigra Plagiarism Controversy: Are Alia Bhatt's Film And Divya Khossla's Savi Really Similar?

Before its release, Alia Bhatt's film 'Jigra' faced controversies. Directed by Vasan Bala and produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, Alia's Eternal Sunshine Productions, and Viacom18 Studios, the film caught the attention of actress-filmmaker Divya Khossla. She is married to Bhushan Kumar of T-Series, who produced Ranbir Kapoor's hit film 'Animal'.

Divya Khossla has accused the creators of 'Jigra', including Alia Bhatt, of plagiarism and manipulating box office figures. She alleges that 'Jigra' is a copy of her movie 'Savi', released earlier this year.

Jigra vs Savi: The Plagiarism Debate

Divya Khossla claims that Alia Bhatt and Karan Johar's 'Jigra' is a replica of her film 'Savi'. The latter was inspired by the 2010 movie 'The Next Three Days'. Starring Divya alongside Harshvardhan Rane and Anil Kapoor, it shares a jailbreak theme with 'Jigra'. However, she insists her film was in production first.

'Savi' narrates a wife's struggle to free her husband from a high-security prison. In contrast, 'Jigra' portrays a sister's efforts to rescue her brother from jail.

Reddit users have debated whether 'Jigra' truly copies 'Savi'. They argue that aside from the jailbreak theme, there are no similarities between the two films.

A Reddit post stated, "Why is there still talk about Jigra being a copy of Savi? Apart from jail break there is nothing similar in these movies. I mean Divya Khosla Kumar has done everything to tell people that Dharma has copied her film". One user commented, "Divya's statement impacted on Jigra a lot", while another added, "Which itself is a remake of Anything for Her. Divya Khosla is just trying to get into the news because her movie failed. The only reason I even saw the movie on Netflix was Anil Kapoor."

Streaming Release: When Will 'Jigra' Be Available on Netflix?

Netflix secured streaming rights for 'Jigra' before its theatrical release. Although an official OTT release date hasn't been announced yet, it's expected to be available on Netflix by late November or early December.

The controversy surrounding 'Jigra' has sparked significant discussion among Bollywood fans. Despite allegations from Divya Khossla, many believe the films differ significantly beyond their shared theme. As anticipation builds for its Netflix release, audiences remain eager to judge for themselves.
