Will Janhvi Kapoor's Ulajh Break Her Box Office Jinx?

Ulajh: Janhvi Kapoor entered Bollywood with the 2018 film Dhadak, a remake of the Marathi movie Sairat. The film was successful at the box office. However, due to the pandemic, her next film, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, premiered on an OTT platform. Janhvi's performance in Dhadak received mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike. But she showcased her potential in Gunjan Saxena and Ghost Stories.

Following the lockdown, Roohi was one of the first films to hit theatres. Despite limited occupancy at 50%, it managed to collect Rs. 23.25 crore but did not become a box office hit. Later, she appeared in Good Luck Jerry, which was released on OTT platforms. In 2022, Mili hit theatres but turned out to be a disaster.

Ulajh: Kapoor's Box Office Fate

Besides Ulajh, Janhvi has other projects lined up including Devara and Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. Devara features Jr NTR in a lead role and is set for release on 27th September 2024. Meanwhile, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari will also release next year.

This year saw her return to theatres with Mr & Mrs Mahi after nearly two years. Unfortunately, it received mixed reviews and didn't perform well at the box office, collecting Rs. 35.81 crore against a budget of Rs. 40 crore. Although it might have been profitable through digital and satellite rights sales, it failed theatrically.

Janhvi is now preparing for Ulajh's release, directed by Sudhanshu Saria and featuring actors like Gulshan Devaiah, Roshan Mathew, Rajesh Tailang, Meiyang Chang, and Adil Hussain. The trailer has generated interest but whether it will succeed at the box office remains uncertain.

Despite being one of her generation's most talented actresses, Janhvi has had only one successful theatrical release out of four so far. Ulajh is set to release on 2nd August 2024 and will compete with Ajay Devgn and Tabu's Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha.

Her recent OTT release Bawaal came out in 2023 before Mr & Mrs Mahi hit theatres this year. The anticipation surrounding Ulajh is high as fans await its performance at the box office.
