Stories That Celebrate the Beauty of Relationships

An emotional drama with numerous twists and turns, the non-linear narrative style, and Hesham Abdul Wahab's soulful music are other factors which elevate the overall quality of the film. Starring Mrunal Thakur, Nani, and Kiara Khanna in lead roles, it is available for streaming on Netflix.

Reminiscent of the cine drama 'Hum Log', the OTT show 'Gullak' is set in a dusty, north-Indian town. It takes audiences on a journey into the lives of the members of the small, modest, and endearing Mishra family. The show portrays how the parents, Santosh and Shanti Mishra (played by Jameel Khan and Geetanjali Kulkarni), along with their sons Annu and Aman (portrayed by Vaibhav Raj Gupta and Harsh Mayar), traverse the challenges of everyday middle-class life.

While they may occasionally bicker, they remain a strong family unit in the face of every difficulty. Directed by Palash Vaswani and Amrit Raj Gupta, 'Gullak' is available for streaming on SonyLIV.

Gudiya ki Shaadi

Imagine the situation of a young and spirited bride who loses her eyebrows hours before her wedding. Will she feel ashamed or embarrassed, or will she boldly decide to accept the change in her appearance? The Zee Theatre teleplay, 'Gudiya ki Shaadi', narrates the tale of this bride-Gudiya, who teaches her family and the audience an important lesson that a woman's value is not determined by her physical appearance.

She also refuses to hold any grudge against her own family and instead makes them understand her perspective. Directed by Sourabh Shrivastava, this popular teleplay stars Shweta Basu Prasad, Virendra Saxena, Samta Sagar, Ishtiyaq Khan, Saroj Sharma, Neha Saraf, Vikram Kochhar, and Anveshi Jain. 'Gudiya ki Shaadi' is available on Zee5.

Jaana Tha Roshanpura

Exploring the depths of extended family relationships, this Samta Sagar creation depicts the tale of a father and his son-in-law. The only thing they have in common is that both are grieving for the loss of Panja. Even though Panja is the daughter of the former and the wife of the latter, the two men quarrel constantly.

Their sadness eventually helps them to discover something new about themselves and their relationship, which forms the crux of this Zee Theatre teleplay. Penned by Samta Sagar and directed by Virendra Saxena and Sanjay Jha, 'Jaana Tha Roshanpura' stars Virendra Saxena, Ravi Mahashabde, and Samta herself.

Maa Retire Hoti Hai

Drawing attention to the often-invisible work that women do at home and how they are expected to prioritise others' needs over their happiness, 'Maa Retire Hoti Hai' narrates the curious tale of a mother who retires from her domestic duties. It's only when she stops f the day-to-day toil that her family realises just how enormous her contribution to their lives was.

Filmed by Suman Mukhopadhyay and directed for the stage by Rajan Tamhane, this Zee Theatre teleplay stars the late Reema Lagoo, Yatin Karyekar, Sachin Deshpande, Shweta Mehendale, Sanket Phatak, Mansi Naik, and Rutuja Nagwekar. The slice-of-life drama also conveys the message that everybody must contribute their bit and appreciate each other. Watch it on Zee5.
