Diljit Dosanjh And PM Modi Discuss India's Capability To Host Larger Music Festivals Than Coachella

Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh believes India can host music festivals larger than global events like Coachella. He shared this vision during a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on New Year's Day. The meeting, held at the prime minister's residence, focused on music, culture, and India's rich artistic heritage.

During their conversation, PM Modi inquired about Dosanjh's experiences performing internationally, including at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April 2023. Dosanjh expressed his belief that India has the potential to create even bigger festivals. "I feel that they have made festivals like Coachella or any other very big. And I believe we can make it much bigger. People travel from all over the world for such festivals," he stated.

India's Potential for Major Music Festivals Discussed

Dosanjh highlighted how deeply music is woven into India's cultural fabric. He noted that even those without formal training often display remarkable talent. "Whether we are eating food in a dhaba or someone is singing in Rajasthani, the song we listen to is so melodious that I feel like I should stop singing," he said, admiring the natural artistry found across India.

The prime minister shared similar thoughts and mentioned his plans to promote India's creative industry through the upcoming World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit, known as Waves. Scheduled from February 5 to 9, this summit aims to be a global platform for creative talents and collaborations.

PM Modi expressed his ambition for India to become a hub for world-class content creation. "My idea is that we are such a big country, and most of the world's films are made here," he explained. He envisions Waves as a movement to position India at the centre of the creative world.

The prime minister also reminisced about discussing Indian music with Angela Merkel, Germany's former Chancellor. He explained how India's music varies throughout the day and across different emotions, which intrigued Merkel.

Dil-Luminati India Tour Success

Dosanjh spoke about his successful "Dil-Luminati India Tour," which started in New Delhi on October 26 and concluded in Ludhiana on December 31. The tour included performances in cities like Mumbai, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Indore, Bengaluru, and Guwahati. "It is the biggest ever tour from India," he remarked proudly.

Reflecting on his tour experiences, Dosanjh said he truly understood why people say "Mera Bharat Mahaan" after visiting various cities across India. PM Modi praised Dosanjh for remaining humble despite his fame and encouraged him to use his platform to raise environmental awareness among fans.
