Honey Singh Clarifies Misunderstandings About Shah Rukh Khan Attack Rumours And Coffee Mug Injury
The Netflix documentary "Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous" explores the life of Indian rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh, addressing myths and rumours about him. Directed by Mozez Singh, it offers an intimate view of his journey to stardom, including his collaboration with Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan on the popular song "Lungi Dance" from "Chennai Express." Released in 2013, this track remains a fan favourite.
Honey Singh took the chance to clarify a long-standing rumour about an incident involving Shah Rukh Khan. About ten years ago, stories circulated that Khan had physically attacked him during a concert in the United States, allegedly causing an injury that required stitches. However, Honey Singh has firmly denied these claims. He explained that he injured himself by breaking a mug on his head after shaving his hair off in distress to avoid performing.

The rapper recounted the events leading to his injury, describing his reluctance to perform at a show in Chicago. Despite immense pressure, he shaved his head as a last resort to escape performing. "When they took me to Chicago for the show, I said, 'I don't want to perform'. I was sure that I was going to die during that show. Everyone told me that I should get ready, but I refused. My managers came over, and they said, 'Why aren't you getting ready?' I said, 'I'm not going'. I went to the washroom, took a trimmer, and I shaved my hair off. I said, 'How will I perform now?' They said, 'Wear a cap and perform'. There was a coffee mug lying there. I picked it up and smashed it on my head," Singh detailed.
Adding depth to the story, Honey Singh's sister shared her experience of the incident. She recalled receiving a troubling message from him that prompted immediate concern. "He messaged me saying something wasn't right... he asked me to come on Skype. When we connected, he pleaded, 'Mujhe please bacha lo, Gudiya, mujhe please bacha le', and then he disconnected," she remembered. Despite reaching out for help from Honey's then-wife Shalini, she faced resistance as Shalini insisted he had to perform that night.
"Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous" reveals the rapper's challenging journey and behind-the-scenes struggles in his career. The documentary highlights how misinformation often affects celebrities' lives. Honey Singh clarified rumours about Shah Rukh Khan: "Someone started the rumour that Shah Rukh Khan slapped me. That man loves me; he'll never raise his hand on me." This statement underscores how easily false stories can spread.
The film aims to uncover the reality behind entertainment industry glamour by exposing stars' mental and emotional challenges on their path to fame. It provides an unfiltered look into Honey Singh's life journey from chart-topping successes to personal hardships.
Ultimately, Honey Singh's documentary emphasises understanding and compassion amid rumours and misunderstandings. It reminds viewers of celebrities' human side beyond their public personas.
