Hidayat Husain Khan Commemorates Republic Day With Soulful 'Jai Hind' Rendition
Hidayat Husain Khan, a celebrated sitarist and composer, belongs to a distinguished lineage in Hindustani classical music. As the son of the legendary Ustad Vilayat Khan, he has gained international recognition for modernising classical music while preserving its essence.
In anticipation of Republic Day, Hidayat Husain Khan is releasing a moving track titled 'Jai Hind.' This piece pays homage to India's rich and diverse spirit. The rendition of the National Anthem includes tabla by Avirodh Sharma and visuals by filmmaker Hrishi Shah. It combines sitar melodies, tabla rhythms, and Hidayat's own vocals.

"The National Anthem was such an intrinsic part of my school days and I was filled with nostalgia when I was invited to perform it at an event in New York City. That experience then inspired me to reinterpret and record this version," says Hidayat Husain Khan and adds, "The composition begins with a meditative alaap and takes the listener right into the core values that define India's historical evolution. The rhythmic tabla patterns capture our nation's joyous diversity. It peaks with a fast-paced 'jhala', representing India's dynamic energy, before culminating in a solo symbolizing unity in diversity,".
The creation of 'Jai Hind' came about naturally. Hidayat explains that the alaap and jhala sections were improvised in the studio alongside his tabla player, Avirodh Sharma. He mentions that even the vocal parts were delivered instinctively from the heart.
The track is produced by Ayon Ghosh (Naad) and incorporates subtle contemporary elements. The accompanying video reflects India's historical depth and vibrant present.
Hidayat Husain Khan remarks on India's cultural richness and resilience, stating that 'Jai Hind' honours these qualities. He notes that it embodies shared memories of acceptance and respect for differences, celebrating the unity that defines India.
