Ghudchadi Director Binoy Gandhi Shares Insights On Star Cast And His First Film
Ghudchadi, featuring Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, Khushalii Kumar, and Parth Samthaan, is set to debut on Jio Cinema on 9th August 2024. Directed by Binoy Gandhi, this film marks his directorial debut. Filmibeat recently spoke with him about the movie, casting choices, and more.
The anticipation for Ghudchadi's release is palpable. Binoy Gandhi shared his feelings about the upcoming premiere. "The feeling is very surreal. I am getting so many positive responses about the songs and the trailer. People, who have not spoken to me for many years, are calling me. So, I am very happy, and it is finally releasing. It feels great, it is too surreal and it is very special for me," he said.

The trailer suggests that Ghudchadi is a family entertainer. However, some might question its cultural appropriateness due to its storyline involving love between parents and children. Gandhi addressed these concerns by explaining the film's target audience and message. He stated that the film isn't aimed at the 18-25 age group but rather conveys a real message about companionship for single parents.
"Firstly, you need to understand who you are making the film for and what audience you are making it for. I am not making it for the audience who are 18-25 years; they are very cool, and Instagrammers," he explained. He added that the film highlights the importance of companionship for single parents who have lost their partners at a young age.
Getting seasoned actors like Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon on board was a significant achievement for Gandhi. He revealed that both actors share a long history of working together and were initially supposed to star in his father-in-law JP Dutta's film Chudiyan. "Sanju and Raveena go back a long way... when I was writing the script, Nidhi (Dutta) was like why don't you get Sanjay & Raveena," he said.
Gandhi recounted how Sanjay Dutt agreed to join after hearing just one line of the script due to their family connection. "He heard the one line and said, 'I am doing this and because you are a family, I will have to do it'," Gandhi shared. Similarly, Raveena Tandon was moved to tears by the script narration.
Young Talent in Focus
The film also features younger actors Khushalii Kumar and Parth Samthaan as a dynamic couple. Gandhi mentioned that Khushalii auditioned impressively after her work in Dhokha caught their attention. Parth was recommended by Khushalii after they worked together on a music video.
"Khushalii auditioned for it and she was great... She told me to meet Parth... He completely nailed it," Gandhi said. He admitted he wasn't aware of Parth's popularity until after casting him but felt fortunate to have both young actors in his film.
OTT Release Decision
Initially planned for theatres, Ghudchadi will now premiere on OTT platform Jio Cinema. Gandhi expressed mixed feelings about this change but remained optimistic due to Jio's vast reach. "I don't agree that if a film is coming on OTT it becomes smaller or you should shoot it in a particular manner," he stated.
He acknowledged that market dynamics influenced this decision but maintained confidence in his vision regardless of the release medium. "Obviously, I am disappointed as it's my first film and I wanted to see it in a theatre," he admitted but also highlighted his excitement about Jio's platform.
Feedback from JP Dutta
Gandhi received encouraging feedback from his father-in-law JP Dutta regarding Ghudchadi's songs and trailer. "I got great feedback from him saying 'your songs are all over', 'your trailer is great'. He said all the best and don't worry your film is going to rock," Gandhi shared.
Future Projects: Border 2
Binoy Gandhi also discussed his involvement in Border 2 as co-producer alongside his wife Nidhi Dutta, who has written the script. He praised her work despite her typically sweet disposition being at odds with Border's intense themes.
"She has nailed it... she has managed a great cast," he said proudly while mentioning that he is also working on writing other films.
The excitement surrounding Ghudchadi continues to build as its release date approaches.
