FIR Filed Against Comedian Yash Rathi For Using Derogatory Language During Show At IIT Bhilai
An FIR has been filed against comedian Yash Rathi for allegedly using inappropriate language during a performance at IIT Bhilai in Durg, Chhattisgarh. The event took place on November 15 and was attended by students, parents, and staff. Clips from the show have circulated widely online, where Rathi is reportedly heard using offensive words.
Complaints were lodged by various groups, including the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the National Students' Union of India, and the Karni Sena. These complaints were directed to both the IIT management and local authorities. Following this, the IIT management also submitted a police complaint regarding the incident.

The police registered a case against Rathi under section 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Jevra Sirsa police chowki. Durg Superintendent of Police Jitendra Shukla confirmed that further investigation into the matter is ongoing. The video clips' viral spread prompted these actions.
During the performance, when Rathi allegedly began using objectionable language, IIT Bhilai's management intervened. They requested him to leave the stage immediately. "Stand-up comedy acts were held during the institute's annual fest in the past but such language was never used by performers," stated IIT Bhilai Director Rajiv Prakash.
The institute's management expressed shock at Rathi's choice of words during his act. As a result, they have decided not to host stand-up comedy shows in future events. This decision came after considering past performances where such language was not an issue.
The management has taken formal steps by lodging a police complaint against Rathi. This action reflects their commitment to maintaining decorum during campus events and ensuring that future performances align with community standards.
