Esha Deol Reflects On Dhoom's 20th Anniversary And Fan Adoration
Released on 27th August 2004, "Dhoom" featured Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham, Esha Deol, Uday Chopra, and Rimi Sen. Directed by Sanjay Gadhvi and produced by Yash Raj Films, the movie was a box office success. It later became a franchise. As "Dhoom" marks its 20th anniversary today, Filmibeat spoke with Esha Deol about this milestone.
Reflecting on the film's 20-year journey, Esha Deol expressed mixed emotions. She said, "It feels great that Dhoom is celebrating 20 years today. But, I feel a little sad also because Sanjay Gadhvi, the director of the film, he is not with us. So, I really miss him today especially when Dhoom completes 20 years; he would have been ecstatic."

Back in 2004, "Dhoom" earned Rs. 31.60 crore at the box office and was deemed a hit. Considering today's market dynamics, it is believed that a film like "Dhoom" could easily surpass Rs. 200 crore in earnings.
In today's digital age, fans can easily connect with celebrities through social media platforms. When asked about her experiences two decades ago and any memorable fan interactions post-"Dhoom," Esha shared her thoughts: "After Dhoom, there was an entire frenzy where a lot of guys had a crush on me, a lot of people proposed. It was very sweet and cute, and I am a young girl, so I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the attention I got. It was nice, it was fun. Even now on my social media, so many of them comment, 'My first crush', and I know they are relating to Dhoom."
Today’s entertainment industry frequently sees new actresses being labelled as the National Crush every week. When asked if she considers herself the original National Crush due to her role in "Dhoom," Esha responded modestly: "No, no. I think actresses in general, whoever it is, audience has a right to have a crush on you, like you and love you. And if you are getting that then you are doing something right."
The legacy of "Dhoom" continues to resonate with audiences even after two decades. The film's impact on Bollywood and its fans remains significant.
