Emergency Box Office Collection Day 9: Kangana Ranaut's Film Faces Tough Competition And Controversy
The film "Emergency," directed by Kangana Ranaut, explores the Indian emergency period with Ranaut portraying Indira Gandhi. Despite its historical significance and a talented cast, including Anupam Kher and Milind Soman, the movie struggles to attract audiences. Even after a week in theatres, it has not met expectations. The film aims to provide an in-depth look at this critical era in India's history but faces challenges at the box office.
From its announcement, "Emergency" generated significant interest due to Kangana Ranaut's extensive involvement as lead actress, director, writer, and co-producer. The film seeks to accurately depict former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's tenure during a pivotal time. However, despite the anticipation and Ranaut's dedication to her role, the film is underperforming in its second week at the box office.

The start of the second week for "Emergency" was lacklustre. According to Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 34 lakhs on its eighth day (second Friday), bringing its total collection to Rs 14.64 crores.
With current trends indicating a struggle post-release of Akshay Kumar's "Sky Force," "Emergency" is expected to have a slow second weekend. Predictions suggest earnings between Rs 30-40 lakhs, making it difficult for the film to reach Rs 15 crores.
Controversy surrounds "Emergency" again as the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) called for a ban in Punjab over concerns it might upset the Sikh community. SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami wrote to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann about this issue. Kangana Ranaut responded by saying, "This is complete harassment of art and the artist... I have utmost respect for all religions... This is a complete lie and propaganda to tarnish my image and harm my film #Emergency."
