Emergency Box Office Collection Day 9: Kangana Ranaut's Film Sees Significant Hike Amid Controversy

Kangana Ranaut's film, Emergency, has captured attention by depicting a crucial era in India's history. Kangana not only stars as Indira Gandhi but also directs, writes, and co-produces the film. This multifaceted involvement highlights its importance and makes it one of the year's most anticipated releases for cinema lovers.

The film's ensemble cast further enhances its appeal. Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, and Shreyas Talpade portray iconic figures like Jayaprakash Narayan, Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee. With Vishak Nair, Mahima Chaudhry, and Satish Kaushik adding depth to the cast, their collective talent has generated significant buzz among fans. However, as Emergency entered its second week, it faced challenges at the box office.

On its ninth day at the box office, Emergency experienced a notable increase in earnings. After failing to reach Rs 50 lakhs on the eighth day (second Friday), the film saw a 115% rise in collections on the ninth day (second Saturday). According to Sacnilk's report, Emergency earned Rs 86 lakhs that day. This brought its total earnings to Rs 15.56 crores despite competition from Sky Force.

Despite facing new releases in theatres, Emergency witnessed a significant increase in audience occupancy on its second Saturday. The film's footfall rose from 10.39% on the eighth day (second Friday) to 19.40% on the ninth day (second Saturday).

Meanwhile, controversy surrounds Emergency once more as the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) called for a ban on its release in Punjab. They claim it could incite unrest within the Sikh community. SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami addressed this concern to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Kangana responded strongly to these allegations: "This is complete harassment of art and the artist... I have utmost respect for all religions... This is a complete lie and propaganda to tarnish my image and harm my film #Emergency."
