Emergency Box Office Collection Day 6: Kangana Ranaut's Film Earns Rs 87 Lakhs Amidst Controversy
Since its announcement, "Emergency," starring Kangana Ranaut, has captured significant attention in the film industry. This historical drama explores the life of Indira Gandhi during the Indian emergency period. Kangana not only plays the lead role but also directs, writes, and co-produces the film. These multifaceted roles have made it one of the most anticipated releases of the year.
The movie features a stellar cast including Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan, Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, and Shreyas Talpade portraying Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Additional performances by Vishak Nair, Mahima Chaudhry, and Satish Kaushik add to its appeal. The film's journey to theatres has been marked by discussions and debates, especially after its trailer release last year, sparking curiosity about its box office performance.

According to Sacnilk reports, "Emergency" experienced a significant drop in earnings on its first Monday. It collected Rs 1.05 crores on day four (Monday) and Rs 1 crore on day five (Tuesday). By day six (Wednesday), it struggled to reach Rs 1 crore, earning Rs 87 lakhs. This brought the total collection for Kangana's film to Rs 13.27 crores.
"Emergency" faced competition from Rasha Thadani and Aaman Devgn's debut film "Azaad." Despite this clash, "Emergency" has consistently outperformed "Azaad" since its release. On the first Wednesday, while "Emergency" earned Rs 87 lakhs, "Azaad" managed only Rs 62 lakhs at the box office.
Meanwhile, controversy surrounds "Emergency" as the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) called for a ban on its release in Punjab. They expressed concerns about potential outrage within the Sikh community. SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami addressed this issue with Punjab's chief minister Bhagwant Mann. Kangana responded strongly to these claims stating, "This is complete harassment of art and the artist... I have utmost respect for all religions... This is a complete lie and propaganda to tarnish my image and harm my film #Emergency."
