Emergency Box Office Collection Day 2: Kangana Ranaut's Film Sees Significant Hike To Cross Rs 6 Crores

Kangana Ranaut's film, Emergency, has finally premiered, showcasing her portrayal of Indira Gandhi. This project, which she also wrote, directed, and co-produced, explores the period of the Indian emergency under the late prime minister's rule. The trailer had sparked discussions since its release last year, making it a hot topic recently.

The biopic features a strong cast with Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan and Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Milind Soman plays Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. Vishak Nair, Mahima Chaudhry, and Satish Kaushik also contribute significantly to the film's storyline. Initially set for a September release last year, Emergency faced delays due to censorship issues but finally hit theatres on January 17 to mixed reviews.

On its second day in theatres, Emergency experienced an increase in audience numbers. The film's occupancy rose from 13.60% on its opening day to 15.41% on day two. This indicates growing interest among viewers.

Emergency collected Rs 2.5 crores on its first day and saw a 40% increase in earnings on the second day. According to Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 3.5 crores on Saturday, bringing its total nett collection to Rs 6 crores.

Despite its box office performance, Emergency is embroiled in controversy again. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has called for a ban in Punjab, fearing it might upset the Sikh community. SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami addressed this concern in a letter to Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann.

Kangana responded strongly to these objections: "This is complete harassment of art and the artist," she said. "From Punjab many cities are reporting that these people are not allowing Emergency to be screened. I have utmost respect for all religions and after studying and growing up in Chandigarh I have closely observed and followed Sikh religion. This is a complete lie and propaganda to tarnish my image and harm my film #Emergency".
