Emergency Box Office Collection Day 1: Kangana Ranaut Achieves Highest Opening In Five Years With Rs 2.35 Crores

Kangana Ranaut is currently making headlines with her latest film, Emergency. This historical biopic, which she wrote, directed, and co-produced, focuses on the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the Indian Emergency period. Kangana portrays Indira Gandhi in the movie, and since its trailer release last year, it has generated significant buzz.

In addition to Kangana, the film features a talented cast including Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. Vishak Nair, Mahima Chaudhry, and Satish Kaushik also play key roles. Although initially set to premiere in September last year, the release was delayed due to censorship issues. Now that Emergency is finally in theatres, it has received mixed reviews from audiences.

The film has become Kangana's highest opener in five years. It recorded a footfall of 13.60% on its first day. This marks her best opening day collection since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

Kangana's portrayal of Indira Gandhi has drawn considerable attention. Emergency garnered Rs 2.35 crores on its opening day at the box office, according to Sacnilk reports.

However, controversy surrounds Emergency once more as the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) called for a ban on its release in Punjab. They expressed concerns about potential unrest within the Sikh community. SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami addressed this issue in a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Kangana responded strongly to these developments: "This is complete harassment of art and the artist," she stated. She further explained that reports from various cities in Punjab indicate attempts to prevent screenings of Emergency. "I have utmost respect for all religions," she added while dismissing claims against her film as false propaganda aimed at damaging her reputation and harming her work.
