Mumbai Police Summons Ekta Kapoor And Shobha Kapoor For Questioning In POCSO Case

Filmmaker Ekta Kapoor and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, have been summoned by Mumbai Police to appear on October 24. This is in relation to a POCSO case filed against them for allegedly depicting minor girls in an obscene manner in a web series. The summons follows a court order which led to the registration of the case last week.

The FIR names Ekta, Shobha, and Balaji Telefilms Limited for allegedly streaming inappropriate scenes involving minors in the ALT Balaji web series "Gandii Baat." The issue pertains specifically to season 6 of the series. Besides the POCSO Act, charges under the Information Technology Act have also been filed against them.

Ekta Kapoor and Mother Face Police Inquiry

A Borivli resident lodged the complaint, claiming that explicit scenes featuring minor girls were streamed between February and April 2021. These scenes were part of one episode in the series. The controversial episode is no longer available on the ALT Balaji app, according to an official statement.

The police had initially issued a notice for Ekta and Shobha Kapoor to appear for questioning on Thursday. However, they are now expected to present themselves on October 24 as part of the ongoing investigation into these allegations.

This legal action has drawn significant attention due to its implications under both the POCSO Act and Information Technology Act. The case highlights concerns over content regulation and protection of minors in digital media.
