East To West EP Unites Hip Hop With South Asian Flair By Nattan, Moga, Paisley
Chani Nattan, Inderpal Moga, and AR Paisley have unveiled their eagerly awaited joint EP "East To West" via 91 North Records. This project merges genuine western hip hop with traditional South Asian elements. The seven-track collection draws from early 90s and 2000s hip hop, bringing together Vancouver's Chani Nattan and Inderpal Moga with Toronto's rap sensation AR Paisley to craft music that crosses international borders.
The opening track 'Block Boys' blends the essence of early 2000s hip-hop with lively Punjabi sounds. This energetic fusion highlights the artists' lyrical skills while narrating their shared grind and hustle. The song sets the tone for the EP, showcasing their distinctive mix of styles.

'Heater' features entrancing synths and bouncy bass-heavy percussion layered on relaxed production by Jass G. This track radiates an aura of dominance and carefree enjoyment. The vibrant and upbeat vibes of 'Dancer', influenced by 90s disco, offer an experimental sound that stands out in the EP.
'Mehndi', inspired by the vibrant culture of Punjabi weddings, combines nostalgia with romantic undertones. This track exemplifies the artists' versatility, blending traditional themes with modern sounds seamlessly.
The love song 'All Eyez On You' is an intense reflection on being completely enamoured by someone who becomes the centre of one's world despite the allure of fame. This track beautifully captures the feeling of deep affection and focus on a single person.
'Seasons' is perhaps their most introspective single to date. It compares relationships to ever-changing seasons, reflecting on the unpredictable nature of love and life's relational tides. This song showcases their ability to delve deep into personal experiences through music.
A Year of Achievements
The release of "East To West" follows a successful year for these rising stars. Chani Nattan and Inderpal Moga have consistently released new music, including their debut 'Facetime' under 91 North Records, which reached #1 on Spotify Canada's Vancouver Pulse Chart. They also released 'Bhabi' recently.
AR Paisley had a breakout year as well, with his surprise collaboration 'Drippy' featuring the late Sidhu Moose Wala accumulating over 15 million views in under a week and charting #9 on Canada's Billboard Hot 100. They are set to perform at the UK's R5B Festival on August 31st.
Collaborative Beginnings
The EP concludes with 'What's Beef', which was released in 2023 as their first collaboration. This track marked the beginning of their journey together in the hip hop scene, setting the stage for future projects.
Chani Nattan, Inderpal Moga, and AR Paisley are among the most exciting breakout rap talents in recent years. Their music is relatable and driven by traditional roots and nostalgia rather than just punchlines. Reflecting on their personal experiences, they shared, "We feel nostalgic when we listen to music right now; it reminds us of middle school days at theme parks or playing basketball."
