Dream Slate Pictures To Release Biopic On Dr. Kiran Bedi, India's First Woman IPS Officer
12th June 2024: Dream Slate Pictures has announced the highly anticipated biopic feature film, BEDI: The Name You Know. The Story You Don't. This film chronicles the life of Dr. Kiran Bedi, India's first woman IPS officer. Written and directed by award-winning Kushaal Chawla, the film delves into Dr. Bedi's life, revealing untold incidents and challenges that shaped her career in policing.
Dr. Kiran Bedi shared during the announcement, "This story is not just my story. It's an Indian woman's story—an Indian woman who grew up in India, studied in India, raised by Indian parents, and worked for the people of India throughout her career. My story began at the age of nine when my father told me, 'Life is on an incline, you either go up or you come down,' and my mother said, 'You shall be a giver and not a receiver.'

These statements remained my guiding principles. As we aim to release this film in the 50th International Year of the Woman, this will be an Indian woman's story representing our great nation internationally."
This movie is also for all generations—men, women, parents, youth, and even children. It spans across professions, whether in government or community service. It embodies the spirit of 'work as worship'—the 'Karamyogi' spirit from our spiritual teachers.
Kushaal Chawla, the writer and director of BEDI: The Name You Know. The Story You Don't, shared, "This film is a labour of love. Four years of expansive research and scriptwriting have been dedicated to ensuring an authentic portrayal of Dr. Kiran Bedi."
He further adds, "It is an honour to write and direct a film about Dr. Kiran Bedi's unique life. She has been a tremendous inspiration to me, and having her trust to direct this film is truly a blessing. In this feature film, I explore heart-warming transformations, unseen triumphs, and the extraordinary personal and professional journey of Dr.Bedi as she navigated her path as the first woman in the male-dominated world of policing."
"I believe the audience will truly get to know the woman behind the khaki and be inspired by her unwavering dedication," Chawla added.
BEDI: The Name You Know. The Story You Don't promises to be an inspirational narrative for generations to come. It will showcase the real Dr. Kiran Bedi, a woman who broke barriers and continues to inspire.
The film will also highlight her collaborative leadership style, emphasizing how she led others to grow and thrive. Her story is one of courage and relentless pursuit of justice, making it relevant to women around the world in any field—administrative, political, or policing.
Dr. Bedi's journey illustrates the transition from command-and-control to collaborative leadership. It's a testament to how she developed leadership skills from day one, relying on self-education and family support.
Her story showcases how a woman groomed herself to reach top ranks of leadership while leading others with accountability and building trust.
This biopic serves as a case study of her extraordinary journey and the values that guided her.
