Diwali 2024: Clarifying The Celebration Dates And Dhanteras Insights
As Diwali 2024 nears, there is confusion about its exact date. Some sources suggest October 31, while others claim November 1. This uncertainty has led to discussions among families eager to plan their celebrations. Dhanteras, which kicks off the Diwali festivities, occurs a few days earlier and is traditionally a time for buying gold and silver. Let's explore the full calendar as we anticipate this festival of lights.
The debate over whether Diwali falls on October 31 or November 1 has puzzled many. Experts clarify that Pradosh Kaal on October 31 runs from 5:12 pm to 7:43 pm, making it an ideal time for worship. On November 1, Amavasya Tithi ends at 6:16 pm, shortening the Pradosh Kaal and limiting the window for Laxmi Puja.

Vice-Chancellor of Somnath Sanskrit University, Arknath Chaudhary, stated in an interview with Dainik Bhaskar, "According to the Rajmartand Granth, Laxmi Puja should be performed on Chaturdashi mixed Amavasya. Following this tradition, Diwali can only be appropriately celebrated on October 31, 2024."
Dhanteras precedes Diwali and will be observed on October 29, 2024. This day marks the start of the festive season and is traditionally associated with purchasing precious metals like gold and silver.
