Dia Mirza Appointed As Jury Member For ALT EFF 2024 To Promote Environmental Awareness Through Cinema
The All Living Things Environmental Film Festival (ALT EFF) is set to return for its 2024 edition, running from 22nd November to 8th December. This year, the festival will feature 72 films, with 38 making their India premieres. Known for its focus on environmentally conscious cinema, ALT EFF offers a diverse array of films addressing critical issues like climate change and wildlife conservation.
Festival Director Kunal Khanna expressed enthusiasm about expanding the festival's reach. "We are thrilled to announce the 2024 dates for ALT EFF and expand our screenings to non-urban regions. It's crucial to engage communities beyond metro cities in these discussions, and cinema has the power to connect people from different walks of life. Bearing in mind the diversity of languages in India, this year we have used AI to translate foreign language films into regional languages, along with curating films made in regional languages. With 38 India premieres and 72 exceptional films, we are excited to create an inclusive platform that brings environmental issues to the forefront, inspiring audiences everywhere."

This year's festival is unique as it aims to extend its reach beyond traditional venues. For the first time, screenings will occur not only in major cities but also in 55 smaller towns and villages across India during the festival period. Additionally, there will be 45 screenings in 14 tier-1 cities. This initiative seeks to raise environmental awareness at grassroots levels, ensuring discussions on sustainability reach all parts of the country.
Bollywood actress Dia Mirza, known for her environmental activism, will join as a jury member at ALT EFF 2024. She shared her thoughts on participating: "I am honoured to be part of ALT EFF, a festival that is not just about films but about building a dialogue around sustainability and the future of our planet. The power of cinema to evoke empathy and inspire change is unparalleled, and I look forward to watching films that reflect the incredible efforts being made globally to protect our environment."
