Deva Box Office Day 1: Shahid Kapoor's Film Earns Significantly Less Than Kabir Singh

Shahid Kapoor, known for his versatility in Bollywood, has returned to the big screen with his latest film, Deva. This movie, directed by Rosshan Andrrews, has been eagerly awaited by fans. On its opening day, Deva earned Rs 5 crores at the box office, according to Sacnilk. This figure is significantly lower than Kabir Singh's first-day collection of Rs 20.21 crores. The comparison highlights the challenge Deva faces in matching the success of Shahid's previous blockbuster.

Deva has become Shahid Kapoor's second lowest opening film in ten years. Jersey holds the record for his lowest opener with Rs 2.93 crores on its first day. This statistic underscores the mixed reception Deva has received despite its anticipation.

Discussing his physical transformation for Deva, Shahid shared with Zoom his vision for the character: "So, what I wanted to do with this character was, I didn't want to make him metrosexual, chiseled-no. I felt like he should look very rugged. In my head, I always thought he should be like a bulldog."

"They're these broad-shouldered, stout beings," he continued. "They don't have much hair, and they look tough. Aise lagta hai na, maar denge aise. Mera feeling wahi tha ki he should be this tough guy." His aim was to portray a raw and strong persona that commands respect and caution.

The film's performance at the box office reflects varied audience reactions despite high expectations. While comparisons with past successes are inevitable, Deva stands as a unique addition to Shahid Kapoor's diverse career portfolio.
