Delhi High Court Acts To Shield Jackie Shroff's Personality Rights
Earlier this month, the Delhi High Court issued a significant order protecting Jackie Shroff's personality rights. This interim order prevents e-commerce platforms, AI chatbots, and social media from misusing Shroff's image, name, likeness, or mannerisms.
Jackie Shroff expressed gratitude to the court for this order. He referenced previous judgements protecting Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor's personality rights. In his statement, Shroff highlighted the lack of recourse celebrities had against misuse of their persona.

"I am heartened by the fact that courts have progressively recognized and protected these rights, as demonstrated in landmark cases involving Mr Amitabh Bachchan and Mr Anil Kapoor. These precedents have been very encouraging and motivated me to assert my rights," Shroff stated.
Shroff emphasized the importance of controlling unauthorized use of celebrity attributes in today's digital media age. He noted that such misuse dilutes a celebrity's brand value and misleads the public.
"In today's rapidly evolving technological landscape, particularly with the advent of digital media, it is crucial to control any unauthorized use and misuse of celebrity attributes. Celebrities wield significant influence, and such abuse can mislead the public regarding a celebrity's association with certain goods or services. The misuse of celebrity personas not only dilutes our brand equity but also misguides the public at large," Shroff added.
The Delhi High Court's injunction covers all media forms, including digital platforms. It prohibits using AI, deep fakes, GIFs, AI chatbots, and similar technologies to exploit Shroff's persona without permission.
Shroff described this step as essential to preserving his life's work's authenticity and respect. He also mentioned that it protects fans from being misled by unscrupulous elements.
