Kalki 2898 AD is directed by Nag Ashwin and marks the first motion picture instalment of the planned Kalki Cinematic Universe. Set in a post-apocalyptic world in the year 2898 AD, the film will reportedly chronicle events from the Mahabharata in the year of 3102 BC.
Nag Ashwin clarified in an interaction with Deadline that the movie "does not involve any characters actively worshipped by large numbers of Hindus". He added that it can be interpreted as either extremely religious or as a story about someone born with immense power who finds his mentor.
