President Murmu Honours Chiranjeevi And Vyjayanthimala With Padma Vibhushan

In a prestigious ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, veteran actors Vyjayanthimala Bala and Konidela Chiranjeevi were honoured with the Padma Vibhushan, marking their exceptional contributions to Indian cinema. This accolade, recognized as the second highest civilian award, was presented by President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday, celebrating their distinguished service in the field of arts.

Vyjayanthimala, aged 90, has been a dominant force in the Indian film industry, captivating audiences with her performances from the 1950s through to the 1960s. Her illustrious career includes iconic films such as 'Devdas', 'Naya Daur', 'Aasha', 'Sadhna', 'Gunga Jumna', 'Sangam', and 'Jewel Thief'. Beyond her Hindi cinema success, Vyjayanthimala has also showcased her talent in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Bengali films. Her last Hindi film appearance was in 1970's 'Ganwaar'. Prior to this recognition, she was awarded the Padma Shri in 1968, acknowledging her as a fourth highest civilian honouree.

Chiranjeevi, at 68, continues to be a significant figure in South Indian cinema with an expansive career spanning over 150 feature films across Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, and Kannada languages. His filmography boasts of hits like 'Rudra Veena', 'Indra', 'Tagore', 'Swayam Krushi', 'Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy', 'Stalin', and 'Gang Leader'. The actor's most recent work includes a leading role in 2023's 'Bhola Shankar' and he is set to appear in the upcoming film 'Vishwambhara'. Previously honoured with the Padma Bhushan in 2006, Chiranjeevi's latest accolade further cements his legacy within the Indian film industry.
