The plot of The Buckingham Murders centres around detective Jasmeet Bhamra, who is grieving the loss of her child. She is assigned to investigate the murder of a 10-year-old in Buckinghamshire. The trailer hints at an emotional and thrilling narrative. The film had its world premiere at the 67th BFI London Film Festival in 2023, receiving positive feedback. As it hits theatres today, there are speculations about its box office performance.

In an exclusive conversation with Filmibeat, film business expert and producer Girish Johar shared his insights on the movie's box office prospects. He said, "It's a very urban and intelligent thriller and they are trying to widen the base by not only releasing it in the Hinglish version but they are also dubbing it can cater too a larger Hindi audience. So they are trying to wider the appeal. Though the trailer and the content and the marketing is showcasing a very limited, urban metro, multiplex kind of an audience. I will be happy if the film opens to anywhere around Rs 1.5-2 crores. But it will be very dependent upon the word of mouth. Achi jaati hai shaam ko badh bhi sakta hai, but it should open in this range".
If predictions hold true, The Buckingham Murders might become Kareena Kapoor Khan's lowest opener in 15 years. Her last film to earn below Rs crores was Main Aurr Mrs Khanna in 2009. It remains to be seen if this new release will gain momentum over its opening weekend.
Discussing her character inspiration, Kareena mentioned drawing from Kate Winslet's role in Mare Of Easttown. She stated in an interview, "I've always admired Mare of Easttown, and when Hansal Mehta approached me with this role, I knew it was exactly what I wanted to do."
As anticipation builds for The Buckingham Murders' performance at the box office, fans are eager to see how Kareena's portrayal of detective Jasmeet Bhamra resonates with audiences.
