Bollywood's Q2 Of 2024 Sees Underwhelming Box Office Performance

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Maidaan, Do Aur Do Pyaar LSD 2 Box Office Collection: The year 2023 marked a successful period for Bollywood, showcasing a mix of blockbuster hits such as Pathaan, Jawan, Gadar 2, alongside well-received smaller projects like 12th Fail and Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway. However, the onset of 2024 witnessed a sluggish start with anticipated releases like Merry Christmas and Fighter failing to leave a significant impact at the box office. The Katrina Kaif-led Merry Christmas was notably unsuccessful, while Fighter managed only average earnings.

February offered some respite with films like Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya and Article 370 performing well, followed by a decent March showcasing successes with Shaitaan an Crew and some buzz around Madgaon Express.

Bollywood Q2 2024: A Dull Start

Expectations were high for the second quarter of 2024 with the release of big-budget films Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Maidaan. Unfortunately, both movies did not perform as expected and were considered box office disappointments.

Attention then shifted to two mid-budget films, Do Aur Do Pyaar featuring Vidya Balan and LSD 2, banking on its franchise appeal. Despite the anticipation, both movies underperformed, with Do Aur Do Pyaar collecting approximately Rs. 2.60 crore and LSD 2 around Rs. 73 lakh within four days of their release.

The election season has led to a lull in major Bollywood releases in the upcoming weeks. Films that are generating interest include Srikanth (10th May), Bhaiyya Ji (24th May), Baby John (31st May), and Mr. & Mrs. Mahi (31st May), with reports suggesting a possible delay for Baby John. Among these, the Varun Dhawan-starrer stands out as a significant release with mass appeal.

June holds promise with the scheduled releases of Chandu Champion, Emergency, and Kalki 2898 AD. After a disappointing April and modest May releases, the industry is hopeful that stars like Kartik Aaryan, Kangana Ranaut, and Prabhas will rejuvenate the box office in the second quarter of 2024.

The question now remains: Which film will emerge as a blockbuster this year?
