Bishnoi Community Protests In Jaipur: Effigies Of Salman And Salim Khan Burnt Over Blackbuck Poaching Remarks
The Bishnoi community in Jaipur recently staged a protest, burning effigies of Bollywood actor Salman Khan and his father, Salim Khan. This demonstration was sparked by Salim Khan's comments about the 1998 blackbuck poaching case, which the Bishnois found misleading. Although Salman was acquitted, the community still feels hurt, demanding an apology for what they see as disrespect towards their beliefs and the law.
Salim Khan's recent interview with ABP News intensified the Bishnoi community's anger. He defended Salman, claiming his son could not harm an animal. The Bishnois found these statements offensive due to the blackbuck's sacred status in their culture. This case, spanning over two decades, continues to provoke strong reactions from a community deeply committed to wildlife conservation.

The Bishnoi community expressed their collective frustration during the protest in Jaipur. "We are Bishnois, we do not defame anyone just like that. When the case was registered 26 years ago, many dignitaries, including the then MLA of the Bishnoi community, were present. Salim Khan cannot mislead people by giving false statements. The entire community was hurt by Salim Khan's statement. We will make all-out efforts to ensure justice was delivered in the Blackbuck case. We will also protest by taking to the streets," they stated. Their declaration highlights their determination to seek justice for the revered blackbuck.
Amidst this tension, Lawrence Bishnoi, a notorious gangster, has issued death threats against Salman and Salim Khan over the poaching incident. He demands that Salman apologise to the Bishnoi community at their temple in Rajasthan or face severe consequences. Earlier this year, gunmen linked to Bishnoi fired shots outside Salman's home, underscoring these threats' seriousness.
In response to these threats, Mumbai Police have increased security for Salman Khan and his family to prevent potential attacks. This heightened protection follows MLA Baba Siddique's murder, a known associate of Salman. Police suspect this incident might be related to Lawrence Bishnoi's ongoing feud with Salman Khan.
The intertwining of celebrity status with community beliefs and legal issues has created a complex scenario filled with tension and threats. The burning of effigies in Jaipur symbolises a powerful call for accountability in this long-standing saga involving Salman Khan. As the Bishnoi community remains steadfast in their pursuit of justice, this narrative extends beyond legal battles into broader discussions on conservation ethics and cultural respect.
